The Darlings present...#MakingItWork
Making It Work is a series of conversations with women who are generating their own work in TV, Film & Theatre. We aim to celebrate their work while exploring what it takes to Make It Work in the fields they inhabit.
We're pleased to welcome Theatre makers Bella Heesom, Eme Essien & Lucy Pearman to our panel, all of whom have recently performed their work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Bella Heesom trained as an actor at LAMDA , before which she studied philosophy at The University of Cambridge. She is also a writer and theatre maker. "I strive to make honest, personal work that makes people think and feel. I like to be inventive with form; fully embracing the live, interactive nature of theatre and playing with a flexible fourth wall."
She has recently returned from a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival with her debut play , My World Has Exploded A Little Bit, which is an autobiographical piece exploring how we deal with grief.
Eme Essien is an actor and writer who trained at the Identity Drama School in London. In 2014 she won Best Actress at the Film Noir France for acclaimed short film “Girl#9”. She has recently completed a successful sell out run at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she wrote and performed her debut one-woman show, “Girls Night Out”.
Lucy Pearman is an actress who writes and performs her own comedy. As one half of LetLuce she gained critical acclaim and a Soho Theatre transfer with their last show “Seamen" (A Naval Tale). She has just returned from Edinburgh 2016 having taken part in three shows a day, one of which was her own show, Crack In Progress, a 30 minute work in progress about an egg that is looking for all the other eggs. She can’t believe no one stopped her or sectioned her.
Lucy trained with National Youth Theatre, Bretton Hall, LAMDA and most recently Philippe Gaulier. She is currently editing two short films that she wrote and produced with Letty Butler. They also have a pilot in development.
