It's that time of year again where we pack up our creative kit bag and move on mass to Edinburgh for the annual Fringe Festival. It's one of our favourite Arts festivals and we're always excited to see the plethora of new work and emerging talent. It seems that each year the number of Women creating their own work and debuting it at the festival grows, this year is no exception. We are delighted to welcome to our next panel two women who are doing just that. Naomi Sheldon & Rebecca Humphries, are Actors & Theatre Makers, they have both written plays, which they will perform in at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017. We are thrilled to be returning to Lights of Soho who we've worked on past events. If you'd like to attend please drop us an email: thedarlingsclub@gmail.com

She says of her work, " It’s about big emotions, growing up in the 90s, sexual awakening, friendships and bad choices. Oh, and witchcraft. Think Caitlin Moran meets The Craft (look it up if you haven’t heard of it you heathens) plus ABBA."

We're pleased to welcome digital content makers Georgina Strawson & Laura Evelyn of the comedy duo Joan & May

Their most recent offering Ten Years, has been selected to screen at the LSFF 2017

Joan & May Comedy is made up of Laura Evelyn & Georgina Strawson; stage and screen actors in their own right but working together to pursue their shared passion for extra-ordinary comedy. In their four-year partnership they've self-produced six episodes of a web series.

Laura Evelyn graduated from GSA in 2007. Alongside working with Georgina, she is part of comedy sketch makers; Bloody Comedy TV (www.bloodycomedy.co.uk). She's a huge movie geek, listens to podcasts, reads books and interviews.  "I like collaborating - it all feels less overwhelming when there's an immediate support network."

Georgina Strawson studied Acting at LAMDA graduating in 2010. She began ‘making it work’ by making work because she wasn’t getting jobs. On creating her own material she says "It’s fulfilling and something that stops me thinking about the phone ringing. It’s made me learn to write and to produce and give me a sense of pride and achievement which has led to more confidence and success in getting jobs!"

Suzie Preece & Hannah Megan Lane are the co-creators of Turn Me Online, which picked up the Award for Best British Web series at  The Raindance Film Festival 2015.

Hannah Megan Lane studied Theatre and Performance at the University of Warwick before going on to focus on screenwriting and directing at The Metropolitan Film School based in Ealing Studios. A dedicated horror fan, Hannah began her career in post-production for an independent horror house before making the leap into full time writing and directing. She has since written a feature script and two shorts that are in development for 2017. Comedy has become her current focus and she hopes to continue proving to the world that yes, women can be funny.

Suzie Preece studied acting at Bristol Old Vic. She was nominated for Best Lead Actor at Raindance Film Festival 2015 for her performance in Turn Me Online. She recently finished a run of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Southwark Playhouse. "Suzie Preece’s Hermia is a standout" Kate Maltby, The Times.

Georgia Maguire & Amy Hoggart are the comedy duo George & Ames

Georgia Maguire trained as an Actor at LAMDA. She has just finished filming on 'Vera' and 'The Halcyon' for ITV. She was nominated for Best Newcomer for her role in Improvised comedy ‘Love me till Monday’ at the London Film Festival. She is developing various projects with comedian Amy Hoggart.

Amy Hoggart is the star of BBC America's critically acclaimed mockumentary series 'Almost Royal'.  She was recently named 'International Star You Should Know' in Variety Magazine and she is currently developing various ideas with production companies in the US whilst appearing on screens as a regular correspondent in Sam Bee's hugely successful news series 'Full Frontal' on TBS. Amy started writing and performing comedy with the Cambridge Footlights. She has taken two sell-out shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has starred in three series of 'Crackanory' for Dave and recorded a series of comedy shorts for BBC Radio 4 Extra.

Making It Work

The Darlings present...#MakingItWork

Making It Work is a series of conversations with women who are generating their own work in TV, Film & Theatre. We aim to celebrate their work while exploring what it takes to Make It Work in the fields they inhabit.

We're pleased to welcome Theatre makers Bella Heesom, Eme Essien & Lucy Pearman to our panel, all of whom have recently performed their work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Bella Heesom trained as an actor at LAMDA , before which she studied philosophy at The University of Cambridge. She is also a writer and theatre maker. "I strive to make honest, personal work that makes people think and feel. I like to be inventive with form; fully embracing the live, interactive nature of theatre and playing with a flexible fourth wall."

She has recently returned from a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe festival with her debut play , My World Has Exploded A Little Bit, which is an autobiographical piece exploring how we deal with grief.

Eme Essien is an actor and writer who trained at the Identity Drama School in London. In 2014 she won Best Actress at the Film Noir France for acclaimed short film “Girl#9”. She has recently completed a successful sell out run at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she wrote and performed her debut one-woman show, “Girls Night Out”.

Lucy Pearman is an actress who writes and performs her own comedy. As one half of LetLuce she gained critical acclaim and a Soho Theatre transfer with their last show “Seamen" (A Naval Tale). She has just returned from Edinburgh 2016 having taken part in three shows a day, one of which was her own show, Crack In Progress, a 30 minute work in progress about an egg that is looking for all the other eggs. She can’t believe no one stopped her or sectioned her.

Lucy trained with National Youth Theatre, Bretton Hall, LAMDA and most recently Philippe Gaulier. She is currently editing two short films that she wrote and produced with Letty Butler. They also have a pilot in development.
