Making Work Even When - The Podcast with Tanya Fear & Adriana Vecchioli.

The Corona Virus pandemic has wreaked havoc on the creative industries, without doubt, leaving it worse for wear. But it has also brought out the creative best in many prompting people to push ahead with passion projects by producing content in isolation or collaboration through technology. There has been an explosion of content made during this time, such as the short film series Shoot Your Shot. The film is a wonderful example of the adaptability of the creative sprit. Part conceived and fully produced during lockdown, it is the brain child of the Actor-Writer and now Filmmaker Tanya Fear. Co produced with Filmmaker Andriana Vecchioli, the film is a romantic tale which explores how the impact of global uncertainty can lead us to do brave and bold acts in the pursuit of love.

Making Work Even When- the Podcast

In our first Podcast for 2018 we spoke to the writer & performer Natasha Marshall. She is the creator of the play HalfBreed, which had a sell out run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival & Soho Theatre in 2017. HalfBreed was her writing debut, partly inspired by her own experiences; it explores race & identity bringing to the stage a voice that we rarely hear. It was nominated for Best New Play at the UK Theatre Awards 2017. Natasha has recently become Writer in Residence for Clean Break as part of the Channel 4 Playwright Scheme.
HalfBreed is currently on a national tour and returns to Soho Theatre in April.

We are delighted to bring you the latest instalment in our Podcast series entitled Making Work Even When, recorded at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As with all our Podcasts we aim to seek out emerging female artists who are creating their own work, predominantly in Theatre and Digital media. This year's festival truly excelled in showcasing work generated by women. We were lucky enough to talk to Monica Dolan whose show The B*easts has been a festival highlight and has received glowing reviews. The show picked up a Stage Edinburgh Award, which is an impressive achievement for her writing debut and marks her out as an exciting new voice in contemporary theatre.

Talking #TwoManShow, founding a Theatre company and making form bending Theatre amongst other things with RashDash Co-founders Helen Goalen and Abbi Greenland.

Bella Heesom trained as an actor at LAMDA , before which she studied philosophy at The University of Cambridge. She is also a writer and theatre maker. She says of her work. "I strive to make honest, personal work that makes people think and feel. I like to be inventive with form; fully embracing the live, interactive nature of theatre and playing with a flexible fourth wall." She spoke to us about her debut play My World Has Exploded A Little Bit, ahead of its appearance at The Vault Festival 2017.

Eme Essien is an actor and writer who trained at the Identity Drama School in London. In 2014 she won Best Actress at the Film Noir France for acclaimed short film “Girl#9”. She has recently completed a successful sell out run at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where she wrote and performed her debut one-woman show, “Girls Night Out”. She also writes a Blog.

Recorded at the second event in our MakingItWork series entitled Doing It Digitally,  we brought together another insanely talented group of women to talk about how they're using digital media to generate their own material. Our panelists were Georgina Strawson & Laura Evelyn (Joan & May) , Suzie Preece & Hannah Megan Lane (Turn Me Online) and Georgia Maguire & Amy Hoggart (George & Ames).

In September 2016 we launched our network. This recording was taken from the launch event, which featured Theatre makers Bella Heesom, Eme Essien & Lucy Pearman who shared their creative stories to an invited audience. They also gave us the lowdown on taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Making Work Even When - The Audio

In March we launched the second edition of our Actor-Writer, Zine, Making Work Even When at the Samuel French Bookshop at the Royal Court. It’s for all the people like me growing up in an area where they have to stay quiet. It’s not just from my past I know this stuff is still going on.
